Porkchop Geyser's name derives from its pork chop-shaped sinter mound. Measuring around 2 feet in diameter, the geyser was once a tranquil hot spring until 1971 when it began erupting intermittently. In 1989, it experienced a violent hydrothermal explosion, scattering debris over 200 feet away and significantly altering its appearance. In that year, a visitor named David Kirwan died after attempting to rescue his friend's dog from the hot spring.

Arizona doesn't have many natural ponds and lakes. To provide water for their livestock, early ranchers dug stock tanks in the national forest open range. Now that the national forests are used for recreation these old tanks provide ideal habitat for wildlife as well as popular destinations for hiking. This unnamed tank has overflowed from the monsoon rainfalls. It is located at the base of Campbell Mesa in Coconino National Forest, Arizona, USA.

Yellowstone National Park sits on top of a dormant volcano and is home to more geysers and hot springs than any other place on earth. Wonders abound at this truly unique national park, from sites like the Yellowstone Grand Canyon to wildlife like America's largest buffalo herd, grizzly bears, and wolves.
Mount Elden is named for John Elden, one of the region's earliest Anglo settlers. Elden and his family established a homestead on the mountain's lower slopes and, during the late 19th century, grazed sheep on the open grasslands below the mountain. The mountain's exposed, rocky slopes are a dominant feature from almost any part of the surrounding area. Despite its rugged appearance and steep relief, the mountain is accessible via an extensive road and trail system. Mount Elden was photographed from the Forces of Nature Trail in the Coconino National Forest near Flagstaff, Arizona, USA.
