Montevideo is the capital of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay and the homonymous department. It is located in the southern part of the country, covering an extensive metropolitan area with more than 2.400.000 inhabitants—66% of the total population of the country (Uruguayan Census 2023-INE). The city has coastlines along the Río de la Plata, where the Montevideo bay and the region's main port are situated.\nThe Salvo Palace (Palacio Salvo) is a historic skyscraper in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. It was built at the initiative of the Salvo brothers—Ángel, José, and Lorenzo—and designed by the Italian architect Mario Palanti, and was inaugurated on October 12, 1928. With its 105 meters and 31 floors, it was the tallest building in Latin America at the time of its construction. It remains one of the tallest buildings in the city today. It has been a National Historical Monument since 1996.
