Alderney island, Guernsey Bailiwick: Fort Tourgis and dirt road along Clonque bay - now in ruins, Fort Tourgis was an extensive fortress northwest of Saint Anne. The coastal fort , completed in 1855, was planned to accommodate a garrison of 346 men and was originally the largest of the Victorian-era forts on Alderney. It was also planned to mount 33 heavy cannons in five batteries along with four 13” mortars. The Victorian forts on Alderney were intended to defend the island and its harbor, which was intended to accommodate a British fleet that would counterbalance the naval power of France in the English Channel.

Abandze / Kormantin, Mfantseman District, Central Region, Ghana, West Africa: eastern side of the hill-top Fort Amsterdam, an early Dutch outpost was established in 1598, the fort was built in 1638 by the English, it was captured by admiral Michiel de Ruyter for the Dutch West India Company in 1665, becoming part of the Dutch Gold Coast. Named Fort York under the English, also known as Fort Kormantin / Fort Cormantine / Fort Courmantyne. It was the first English slave outpost in Africa, trading also in gold and ivory with local suppliers. The Coromantee / Cormantine slaves, as they were called, were bought from the Ashanti and then transported to the Americas. UNESCO World Heritage site.
