The dilapidated ruins of Kerma (also known as Dukki Gel), a 5500 years old civilization that flourished in the Nubian desert, in northern Sudan. Kerma is one of the largest archaeological sites in ancient Nubia, most of it abandoned and at the mercy of the elements and birds nesting on its walls. The Nubian Desert is in the eastern region of the Sahara Desert, between the Nile and the Red Sea. The native inhabitants of the area are the Nubians, descendants of the ancient Nubian civilizations.
