Housed in the historic Court House building, which dates back to 1750, designed by\nPeter Harrison, and is believed to be the oldest structure in St. John's, the museum offers visitors a comprehensive journey through the islands' past. Its exhibits span from the geological formation of the islands to pre-Columbian settlements, colonial history, and the path to independence. The museum's collection includes Arawak and Siboney artifacts, colonial-era relics, and displays on natural history, slavery, and emancipation.

In the process, the Stoosbahn covers a total ascent of around 744 metres, and travels over two bridges and through three tunnels.
