Zurich,Switzerland - September 10,2013 : Alphorns (Alpenhorns) being played by traditionally dressed locals at Zurich town center.An alphorn is a musical instrument made of wood,mostly from pine tree.The main function of the alphorn was, for communication with the herdsmen on the neighboring Alps and with the people down in the valley below.Also it has long been a tool used by shepherds.The alphorn in Switzerland was first documented in the mid-16th century.The sound of alphorns served as an evening prayer too, and was mainly practiced in the Reformed cantons.
