Short to medium hairless, tuberous-rooted; stem with 2-3 basal, brownish, sheaths. Flowers pink or reddish-lilac, sometimes white or purple, vanilla-scented, in a rather dense slender spike, the lateral sepals spreading, but the upper sepal and petals forming a hood; lip 3.5-5mm, 3-lobed with a longer, slender, slightly curved spur, 11-18mm, pointed, much longer than the ovary. Habitat: In a variety of places from grassland and open scrub, to marshes and fens, but more especially on calcareous soils, to 2700m. Flowering Season: June-July. Distribution: Throughout Europe, except the far north. \n\nThis Picture is made on a Chalk Hill in the South of Belgium (Ardennes) in June 2006.

Anatolian orchis
Dactylorhiza fuchsii, the common spotted orchid, is a species of flowering plant in the orchid family Orchidaceae. Dactylorhiza fuchsii is one of Europe's most common wild orchids.
Short to medium; stem tinged purple, hairy above, with several brownish sheaths below. Leaves 5-8, lanceolate, pointed, folded lengthwise. Flowers bright pink or purplish-pink, sepals and petals lanceolate, pointed, the lateral sepals often , though not always, spreading widely; lip 17-22mm, whitish with a purple and pink margin and with 7-9 narrow yellowish ridges above. Ovary hairy.\nHabitat: Beech woods, shady rocky slopes, to 1800m, usually on calcareous soils.\nFlowering Season: June-July.\nDistribution: North to C Scandinavia: not in Holland. Protected Species!\n\nThis Picture of this beautiful Orchid is made during a short Trip in the Eifel (Germany) in June 2022.
