Almost all of the fountains in Istanbul were built in the mosque complexes, on the streets of the neighborhoods during the Ottoman Period, and were also used during the Republic of Turkey. These fountains lost their function as the city mains water became widespread in the residences. Some of them are in ruins today. Most of them have been restored. Today, these fountains occupy a privileged place in urban architecture.
