Istanbul, Turkey - October 16, 2023: Galata Tower was built by the Byzantine Emperor Anastasius as a lighthouse in 528, but the Genoese rebuilt the tower in 1349. The tower, which was damaged by the earthquake in the 1500s, was repaired by Architect Hayreddin. III. During the Selim period, a bay window was added to the upper floor of the tower. When the tower suffered another fire in 1831, II. Mahmut climbed two more floors above the tower. Finally restored again in 2020

The Galata Tower (Turkish: Galata Kulesi), or with the current official name Galata Kulesi Museum (Turkish: Galata Kulesi Müzesi), is a tower in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, Turkey. It is named after the quarter in which it's located, Galata. Built as a watchtower at the highest point of the Walls of Galata, the tower is now an exhibition space and museum, and one of the symbols of Beyoğlu and Istanbul.
