![Munich, Germany - 13th of August, 2022. Close Up Of Max Monument And View Of Saint Lukas Cathedral. The Maxmonument in Munich , also called the Max II Monument , is a large monument honoring the Bavarian King Maximilian II. The year after Maximilian's death, a competition was announced for a monument in his honor to be erected on Maximilianstrasse, which had been built during his reign. The Westphalian-born sculptor Kaspar von Zumbusch emerged as the winner in 1865. Ferdinand von Miller carried out the bronze casting ; the main character alone weighs almost five tons. The monument was unveiled on October 12, 1875.
