Blackfin Sandperch Parapercis snyderi occurs in subtropical and tropical Western Pacific from southern Japan to Queensland, Australia in silty sand and rubble areas near reefs in a depth range from 10-40m, max. length 11cm. \nThis specimen is propped up on its lower pectoral fin rays. Sandperches are often observed motionless that way, like a watchdog. \nTriton Bay, Kaimana Regency, West Papua Province, Indonesia, 3°57'4.944 S 134°8'1.032 E at 17m depth

The Pretty Lagoon-Goby (Oplopomus oplopomus) is a small and colorful fish species commonly found in lagoon and reef habitats of the Indo-Pacific region. This goby has a distinctive elongated body shape, with a vibrant orange-yellow coloration and bright blue spots along its sides. They are known for their playful behavior and can often be observed darting around coral heads and rubble, feeding on small invertebrates. Despite their small size, they play an important role in the ecosystem as prey for larger fish and invertebrates.

Latticed Sandperch Parapercis clathrata occurs in the tropical Indo-West Pacific from India and Sri Lanka to Tonga, from the Ryukyu Islands and the Great Barrier Reef to the Marshall Islands and Samoa in a depth range from 3-50m, max. length 24cm. \nThis is a male specimen: only males develop a conspicuous ocellus on each side of the nape. Young are best identified by the patch of small spots on the cheek that usually remains evident in adults. \nTriton Bay, Kaimana Regency, Indonesia, 3°53'59.62 S 134°6'23.86 E at 9m depth

Spangled Shrimpgoby (Vanderhorstia dorsomacula) is a small fish that is commonly found in the coral reefs of the western Pacific Ocean. It has a distinctive appearance, with a white body covered in small black spots and a bright yellow-orange stripe along its back. The species is known for its symbiotic relationship with a shrimp, where the two share a burrow in the sand. The shrimp provides protection for the goby, while the goby warns the shrimp of potential threats. The Spangled Shrimpgoby is a valuable species for maintaining the biodiversity of coral reef ecosystems.

Crocodile Fish Cymbacephalus beauforti occurs in the tropical West Pacific in shallow waters from 1-12 m. The species, an ambush predator, lives on sand or rubble substrates of sheltered or semi-exposed reefs and is also found in coral reefs and mangrove areas. \nThe cirri (= leafy appendages above the eyes) break up the outline of the eye, so its much harder for their prey to spot them. Somehow looking a bit like a crocodile, this species is much smaller, the maximum length is 50 cm, but the common length is 35 cm.
