Taken on 25th January 2014 using a Canon EOS 7D.

It measures 13 centimeters long and weighs 7 grams, with a 3 centimeter beak. It is robust, with a long and curved beak, with a light yellow mandible and a black jaw. Upperparts tan green; darkened post-ocular stripe and narrow white superciliary stripe; rusty lower parts, being more intense in the throat and upper chest. Brown rectrices with a wide black subterminal stripe and a white tip, the central ones being green and not elongated. The female is lighter ventrally and has a more curved bill than the male. Perched, or even hovering in flight, it can be seen insistently waving its tail back and forth, living up to its main popular name.

$Low to short perennial or biennial; stems numerous, erect, unbranched, hairless or with 2 lines of hairs. Leaves lanceolate, 2-pinnately-lobed, hairless or slightly hairy; bracts similar to the leaves, though smaller.\nFlowers pink or red, 15-25mm long, in lax spikes, the upper lip of the corolla blunt, slightly curved, 2-toothed near the apex; calyx not 2-lipped, hairless, inflated in fruit.\nHabitat: Bogs, marshes, damp heaths, moors and open woodland on peaty soils, to 1800m.\nFlowering Season: April-July.\nDistribution: Throughout Europe, Except the Faeroes, Iceland and N Scandinavia.\n\nThis is a scarce Species in the described Habitats in the Netherlands.$
