Saint Pierre, Saint Pierre Island, Saint Pierre et Miquelon: the Zazpiak‑Bat Fronton in Saint Pierre is an open‑air court constructed in 1906 on Place Richard Briand, used for the Basque pelota sport and reflecting the enduring Basque presence in Saint Pierre et Miquelon. At approximately 45 m in length and notable for its striking red façade, it is recognized as the oldest surviving Basque pelota fronton in North America. Built of stone and cement to replace an earlier wooden structure, it became a community focal point amid early 20th‑century political tensions, including the controversial dynamiting of the original wall in 1904. Beyond sports, it hosts the annual Basque Festival each August, where pelota matches, traditional music, dance, and local cuisine celebrate the archipelago’s Basque heritage.

Asmara, Eritrea – Mai 09, 2011: Men walking on the streets of Asmara, the capital city of Eritrea, an East African country. It is located in a high plateau, part of the Great Rift Valley, at 2,325 m. Asmara is famous for its laid back atmosphere and its well-preserved modernist and art-deco architecture of churches, synagogues, cafes and public buildings inherited from its period under Italian colonial rule. In 1939 over 50,000 Italian nationals lived in the city that was known as “Little Rome”. Today more than 400 buildings of Italian origin remain. In 2017, Asmara was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site as an exceptional example of early modernist urbanism applied in an African context.

Miquelon, Miquelon Island, Saint Pierre et Miquelon: Miquelon-Langlade town-hall on Baron de l'Espérance Street. Miquelon-Langlade is the larger and more sparsely populated of the two communes that constitute the French overseas collectivity of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, located off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada. It is comprised of two distinct geological islands, Miquelon and Langlade, connected by a 12-kilometer-long sandy isthmus known as the Dune de Langlade. The majority of its small population resides in the village of Miquelon on the northern part of the island. The territory's landscape is characterized by rocky coastlines, peat bogs, and barren hills, with the highest point being Morne de la Grande Montagne. Historically reliant on cod fishing, Miquelon-Langlade's economy is now also supported by tourism, attracting visitors with its unique natural environment, including diverse wildlife and opportunities for bird watching. As an integral part of France, its residents are French citizens and the official currency is the Euro.

Miquelon, Miquelon Island, Saint Pierre et Miquelon: building housing the Visitor Information Center and House of Nature and the Environment (Nature Interpretation Center) - Town-hall on the right - Miquelon‑Langlade, the larger, more rural island within the French overseas collectivity of Saint‑Pierre and Miquelon, has become a modest but growing destination for nature‑based tourism. Visitors commonly begin their exploration at the Nature Interpretation Center, a year‑round educational facility offering interactive exhibits on the archipelago’s marine, dune, boreal forest, and peat bog ecosystems, and serving as a launch point for guided hikes across a largely preserved landscape. The island’s network of marked trails—including routes such as Cap au Diable, Cormorandière Valley, Anse à Henry, and Chemin des Bœufs—offers access to coastal lagoons, dunes, wild meadows, and abundant birdlife, with opportunities to observe seals, migratory birds, and occasionally whales from shore. Tourism remains modest, with most visits occurring during the summer months when ferries and flights between Saint‑Pierre and Miquelon operate regularly and guided nature tours are available. The island’s quiet charm, uncrowded beaches, and biodiversity appeal primarily to hikers, bird watchers, and those seeking a tranquil escape in a uniquely North Atlantic environment informed by both French and Newfoundland influences.
Coffee has a long-standing link with Ethiopia. It was domesticated on the Ethiopian plains thousands of years ago, and has become part of local traditions and community rituals. Ninety percent of Ethiopian coffee is a product of small-scale producers. Twenty percent is found in the forest: some is cultivated among the trees and some is wild. It is this small portion of wild forest coffee that is most precious.
