Tillamook Rock Light, a lighthouse located near Cannon Beach, Oregon. nicknamed “Terrible Tilly”. Taken from Haystack Rock area. First lit in 1881 and deactivated in 1957. Built on basalt rock in the Pacific Ocean.
With the advent of radar, GPS and other advanced navigation tools, lighthouses no longer need to perform the same function they once did; guiding ships to safety.
