The mature fruit of the Ixora plant varies in color from dark green to intense red, depending on the stage of ripeness. Typically, the fruits are small, rounded or oval-shaped, and are clustered at the ends of the branches. The surface of the fruit is smooth and can have a glossy appearance when fully ripe. The mature Ixora fruit contains small, hard seeds that are released when the fruit opens.

The Birdbill Dayflower (Commelina dianthifolia) is a pastel blue flower with three petals in the spiderwort family.  They commonly grow in Arizona, New Mexico, southern Colorado, and Texas.  The flowers emerge from a folded leaf-like structure called a bract which has a long-tapered tip. The flowers open in the morning but are withered by mid-day.  Birdbill dayflower are found in woodlands and forest openings where they grow in rocky soils.  Plants do well during the monsoon season.  This birdbill dayflower was photographed by the Arizona Trail in the Coconino National Forest near Flagstaff, Arizona, USA.
