Protected raised bog area in rural Scotland, with white cotton-grass, also known as common cotton-sedge, growing in the moist ground. Also known as ombrotrophic bogs, these acidic, wet habitats are under threat from peat cutting and pollution. The wetlands, with their environmental qualities are protected as conservation areas, home to unique flora and fauna, as well as important natural carbon absorbers, with the absorbent peat, that impacts climate change if destroyed.
