Playing card promoting The Eastern Highway, P&O and British India Lines. The P&O and British India names were linked between 1914 and 1971, when the company conveyed passengers and freight from the UK to Egypt, India, the Far East and Australia. The motto 'Quis separabit' translates to 'Who will keep us apart?' This card was made by Thomas De La Rue of London in the 1930s. It features a grooved herringbone pattern that makes such cards 'pneumatic': a layer of air stops adjacent cards from sticking together. The design features a pagoda.
