When not erupting, the Anemone Geyser displays a variety of textures and colors in the Upper Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park.

The Great Plains meet the Rocky Mountains in Wyoming. The state is a great plateau broken by a number of important mountain ranges. In the northwest are the Absaroka, the Owl Creek, Wyoming, Gros Ventre, Wind River and the Teton ranges. In the north central are the Big Horns; in the northeast, the Black Hills; and in the southern portion of Wyoming, the Laramie, Medicine Bow and Sierra Madre ranges.

This geyser consists of a cluster of small vents that produce frequent but irregular bursts of water, often reaching heights of up to 15 feet. The name 'Spasmodic' reflects its jerky, spasm-like activity, where multiple vents can erupt simultaneously or in rapid succession. Spasmodic Geyser is part of the extensive network of geothermal features in the Upper Geyser Basin, offering a unique display of Yellowstone's dynamic and varied geyser activity.

Yellowstone National Park’s thermal features can be seen as the product of millions of years of geology at work. Geysers are hot springs that erupt periodically. The eruptions is the result of super-heated water below-ground becoming trapped in channels leading to the surface.

Yellowstone National Park sits on top of a dormant volcano and is home to more geysers and hot springs than any other place on earth. Grotto Geyser is known for its unique, irregularly shaped cone, which resembles a series of interlocked arches or grottoes. Eruptions from Grotto Geyser are frequent, often lasting several hours, with water reaching heights of 10 to 40 feet. The geyser's unusual cone formation is believed to have been created by mineral deposits building up around the remnants of dead trees and other debris, making it one of the most distinctive features in the basin. Grotto Geyser is part of the Giant Group, contributing to the diverse geothermal landscape of Yellowstone.
