A statue of Arthur Wellesley, the first Duke of Wellington, (1769-1852) mounted on his horse, in Royal Exchange Square, Glasgow. The monument was created by Carlo Marochetti in 1844. The Duke of Wellington is perhaps best known for beating Napoleon at Waterloo. Since at least the 1980s it has been a tradition (often maintained after a few drinks) to ensure that the statue sports a traffic cone.
