Vintage photograph of Crew of Chilean ironclad Blanco Encalada, 1891. Blanco Encalada was an armored frigate built by Earle's Shipbuilding Co. in England for the Chilean Navy in 1875. Blanco Encalada formed part of the congressional forces that brought down President José Manuel Balmaceda in the Chilean Civil War of 1891. She was sunk during that conflict on 23 April 1891, becoming the first warship to be sunk by a self-propelled torpedo.

The bow of HMAS Hobart docked at Garden Island in Sydney Harbour with her serial number and anchor.  She is one of three Hobart-class destroyers of the Royal Australian Navy.  This image was taken on an overcast afternoon in summer.

Kyoto, Japan - October 22, 2012: People with torches at the Kurama Himatsuri in the streets of the northern suburb of Kyoto in Kurama. Every 22 of october from 6pm to midnight people carry small a huge  torches weighting more than 80 kilograms through the main street of Kurama. This is an ancient rite in which the spirits of hell are guided by the light of pine torches through the human realms. It has also a relation with the emperor that started to send torch bearers from the palace to the village in the year 794.  The older boys and men are dressed in traditional loincloths.
Inoperative ships become ship graveyard pieces awaiting dismantling for scrapyards.
