The remains of the temple of Portico D'Ottavia in the heart of the Jewish Quarter (Roman Ghetto), near the archeological area of the Theatre of Marcellus. According to tradition and some archaeological remains of Ancient Rome this area was occupied by a fish market. The iconic Jewish Quarter of Rome, the oldest ghetto in Europe, is famous for the presence of hidden alleys and small squares, where it is easy to find small restaurants of Italian and Jewish cuisine, and remarkable Roman archaeological remains. The ghetto of Rome is located in one of the oldest districts of the Eternal City, located between the Campidoglio (Roman Capitol) and the Tiber river. In 1980 the historic center of Rome was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Super wide angle and high definition image.
Palmyra, Syria- 28 November 2008: Amphitheatre at Palmyra city, Syrian desert. Dating back to the Neolithic era, the city of Palmyra, was a strategically located oasis first attested in the early second millennium BC as a caravan stop for travelers crossing the Syrian Desert. Mentioned in the Hebrew Bible and the annals of the Assyrian kings, Palmyra was subsequently incorporated into the Seleucid Empire, followed by the Roman Empire which brought it great prosperity. It is saddening that its present Roman ruins, declared by UNESCO as a world heritage site, have come to be endangered in the 21st century by regional military and political strife.Dating back to the Neolithic era, the city of Palmyra, was a strategically located oasis first attested in the early second millennium BC as a caravan stop for travelers crossing the Syrian Desert.
