Dark brick facade of an old abandoned factory. The stones are damaged and outdated, but new windows have been installed so that the restored building can be used again.
In 2001, the half-demolished ArcelorMittal factory that had been left to the mercy of nature was overgrown with vegetation. Twenty years later, a modern urban quarter proudly stood in its place. Today, Belval is a mixed neighbourhood that provides a home to residents, research institutes and businesses. Since the University of Luxembourg has installed its campus here, it has turned into a ‘Innovation district’. The blast furnaces – steel towers that are legacy of the site’s industrial past – have been seamlessly integrated into the urban landscape.

Modern skyscrapers surround the remains of the early electric trolley tracks lined with granite cobblestones recently excavated during construction on Tremont Street adjacent to 16th street mall in downtown Denver Colorado. Trinity Methodist church and the Brown Palace stand in the background. The Denver Tramway Company converted it’s cable car route in 1889 to electric trolley on Tremont. Later in 1905, parts of the line were upgraded and cement was poured in and around the rails and into the cable trenches near the Brown Palace.
