white plume moth in natural habitat (pterophorus pentadactyla)
Pterophorus pentadactyla, commonly known as the white plume moth, small white butterfly among green leaves, south Ukraine
Stenoptilia bipunctidactyla, also known as the twin-spot plume is a moth of the Pterophoroidea family. The wingspan is 17–25 mm. The larvae feed on devil's-bit scabious (Succisa pratensis), common toadflax (Linaria vulgaris), weasel's snout (Misopates orontium), small scabious (Scabiosa columbaria) and widow flower (Knautia species). There are differences in the early and intermediate larval instars which may be two different species or the variation may be due to diet, season or normal variation within the species. Larvae found on one foodplant can be reared on the other foodplant. They overwinter as an early instar. Spring generation larvae feed within a stem and some, later in a folded leaf, while the summer generation feed in the flowers. Pupae are attached to the larval foodplant or to a nearby stem

Tot 39-48mm, Ab 29-39mm, Hw 23-28mm.\nLestes viridis is easily noted for its vivid green color, pale appendices, large size and its habit of hiding in trees and bushes. It is the only European Species that lay eggs in living wood.\nOccurrence:\nWidespread and common in most of Europe; inexplicably absent until recently from Great Britain (where suitable habitat abounds). Benefits from urbanization, favoring garden and park ponds, and possibly expending northwards.\nHabitat: \nAlmost any type of standing or slow flowing water with bordering trees and bushes. Unlike other Lestes, does not favors ephemeral conditions (e.g. shallows, drying-out pans).\nFlight Season:\nThe latest Lestes; in central Europe seldom emerges before mid-July, but already in early May in Iberia. Abundant in august and September, persisting into November.\n\nThis is probably the most Common Lestes in the Netherlands.

Tot 40-45mm, Ab 26-35mm, Hw 20-27mm.\nThis mobile species is typical of habitats prone to desiccation. It is recognized in most areas by its pale coloration and bicolored pterostigma. Often seen ovipositing in completely dry areas.\nOccurrence:\nA strong wanderer found in Mid and South Europe to the east to Mongolia; may be absent from areas for many years, suddenly establishing large colonies that may persist for years. A southern species that has increased dramatically in northern Europe since the mid 1990s.\nHabitat:\nFavors ephemeral conditions even more than other Lestes species, being typical of sites that dry out early in summer, such as dune slacks, meadow pools and shallow depressions.\nFlight Season:\nFrom March to October in the southern Mediterranean, but in the north most adults probably emerge in June and July, reaching the greatest densities in August.
