Native to Paraguay, Uruguay, Southern Brazil and Northern Argentina, Feijoa sellowiana is a slow growing, multi-stemmed evergreen shrub. Commonly called Feijoa, Pineapple guava, Acca sellowiana and Guavasteen, it can be trained to be a small tree with a single trunk, espaliered or pruned to form a dense hedge or screen. The flower season is from late spring to summer. Its flowers consist of fleshy white petals and showy red/scarlet stamens. The petals are edible. The green fruits mature in autumn and also edible.
