July 30, 2024: Madrid, Spain. The building of the Banco de Bilbao (now part of BBVA) is located at number 16, Calle de Alcalá in Madrid, Spain. It was designed in 1919 by architect Ricardo Bastida y Bilbao and constructed between 1920 and 1923. The towers feature two bronze chariots. Higinio Basterra is the author of the two sculptures, which, according to data from the time, weigh 25 tons. They are filled with meaning due to the symbolism they represent—strength and power—two strong and solid values that the bank's directors wanted to convey by crowning their headquarters with them.\n\nOver the years, they have witnessed the most recent history of Madrid and have been part of some very curious anecdotes. For example, they were originally gilded but had to be painted a dark color so as not to attract Francoist planes during the Civil War.\n\nThey have also served as a reference for some films and movies about the city. For instance, they are featured in Álex de la Iglesia's movie \
Embassy of Spain in Argentina.
