Argemone Mexicana, also known as Mexican Prickly Poppy, is an upright, prickly, annual or perennial, boasting its bright yellow, poppy-like flowers, with numerous yellow or reddish stamens. Tormentil is quite distinct from other Potentillas in that it has only four petals. Its herbal uses have been for diarrhoea and ulcerative colitis. Extracts from root and herb have been a gargle for throat and mouth, and a lotion for haemorrhoids. Given advances in modern medicine, none of these uses is recommended.
