The beautiful facade of the Cathedral or Duomo of Santa Maria Assunta in the historic heart of Pesaro, a town on the Adriatic coast of Italy in the Marche region. Built in the 12th century, the Cathedral of Pesaro stands on a previous temple from the Peleo-Christian era of which some mosaics are preserved. The Romanesque-Gothic style facade is unfinished and has a simple ogival portal. Known as the City of Music and the City of the Bicycle, Pesaro was founded by the Piceni people during the Iron Age, to develop as an important center on the Adriatic Sea under the rule of Ancient Rome and later in the Middle Ages.
