An Eastern Hognosed Snake (Heterodon platirhinos) in a threat display.  The threat display is to make the snake appear larger and more menacing in a hope that its antagonist will leave it alone.  In this case it was hisses, flattened its body, neck and head and curled its tail.  Some roll over on their backs and play dead.  The eye color is due to the snake nearing the time it will shed its skin.
