The Verdon Gorge is the deepest canyon in Europe, created by the erosion of the Verdon River. The canyon is 50 km long and in some places reaches up to 700 meters deep. In the bottom of the canyon flows the river Verdon, which, when it's closer to the lake Sainte-Croix, turns a perfect shade of emerald green. The canyon is located among the departments of Var and Alpes de Haute Provence.
