Mertensii Butterflyfish, Chaetodon mertensii, is often found living on or around the reefs of the Pacific Ocean. Members of the genus Chaetodon make gorgeous inhabitants of fish only aquariums. Soft Corals and most Invertebrates should do fine with the Butterflyfish, but it may likely decimate Stony Corals, as they are a part of its natural diet.
Coral reefs are the one of earths most complex ecosystems, containing over 800 species of corals and one million animal and plant species. Here we see a shallow coral reef consisting of Merten's Anemone (Stichodactyla mertensii). It contains numerous Damselfish and sea starfish. Image obtained at Phi Phi archipelago, Krabi province, Thailand. Sony mirrorless camera, with underwater housing used.
