There was a proliferation of wildflowers in March 2017 in northwestern Baja California after the prodigious rains of the preceding winter.  The 100 km stretch of desert between El Rosario and Cataviña exploded with at least 50 species of wildflowers in such abundance as to cover entire hillsides and valleys with swaths of color.  In this photo, there are several boojum trees (Fouquieria columnaris), a cardón cactus (Pachycereus pringlei), and many agaves (Agave sp.).
It is a perennial herb with a bulb 3.5-18 cm in diameter, often somewhat protruding from the ground, ovoid or subglobose, with brown, reddish-brown, grayish-brown outer tunics. brown-blackish, sometimes whitish.
