The Purple Martin, the largest swallow, is one of the favorite backyard birds in the US. In the eastern part of the country the birds live almost exclusevely in man made bird houses. The conspicuous yellow spot on S7 identifies males and most females through binoculars.\nOccurrence:\nGenerally uncommon; populations are usually local and small. The most thermophilus Leucorrhinia, with a relative southern range.\nHabitat:\nGenerally inhabits less acidic and nutrient poor places than L. dubia and L. rubicunda, preferring marshy borders to bogs, forest lakes, fenlands, marshy ditches.\nVegetation is typically lush and varied, with both emergent and submerged species. The water is frequently mesotrophic and often colored brown due to peat.\nFlight Season:\nFrom early May to early August, with most records in late May and June.\n\nThis Picture is made in the Wieden (Overijssel, the Netherlands) in mid June of 2023.$

This is a little perching bird that often eats the treats I leave in my bird feeder. He is a common bird, but his wings are beautiful. This was shot using priority shutter in order to stop the motion of his wings. This little fella is very fast! So, he it was challenging to catch such a great shot of his wings fully open.
