The village of Perissa on the island of Santorini, Greece is situated about 13 km southeast of Fira, close to a massive known as the Messa Vouno rock that separates it from the neighbouring coastal resort of Kamari.  The black sand beach, heavily populated during the summer months, becomes much more sparse as the holiday season draws to a close in early October.  Lying on the Aegean Sea, the village itself has a permanent population of just 678 people, according to the 2011 census, although this swells appreciably with visiting tourists during the peak season. The promenade road runs adjacent to the beach and has many stalls, shops, cafes and restaurants along its length.
