Buffalo Park is a 163-acre park located on McMillan Mesa in Flagstaff, Arizona, USA. The park was created on land acquired in 1963 from the United States Forest Service. It was originally set up as wildlife park featuring a pond stocked with ducks and other waterfowl as well as a few native animals such as elk. By the time the park opened in 1964, eight bison were brought in to reside there. These bison gave Buffalo Park its name. The wildlife park lost money and the animals were removed after 5 years. Today Buffalo Park is managed as open-space and has become the crown jewel of the city’s park system. The park offers breathtaking panoramic views of the San Francisco Peaks, Mount Elden and the Dry Lake Hills. This panorama features the San Francisco Peaks and the golden hued grasses of the McMillan Mesa Meadows.

The Ajo Mountain Drive offers breathtaking views of the unique Sonoran Desert landscape, featuring a variety of flora and fauna. Two of the standout features of the area are the Organ Pipe Cactus (Stenocereus thurberi) and the Saguaro Cactus (Carnegiea gigantea). The Saguaro stands tall, often reaching heights of 40 feet or more and living up to two centuries. Its characteristic silhouette, adorned with 'arms' reaching towards the sky, serves as a testament to its endurance in harsh desert conditions. In contrast, the Organ Pipe Cactus thrives in clusters, its slender stems resembling a congregation of organ pipes, hence its name. This cactus species flourishes in rocky terrain, its multiple stems serving as water reservoirs to survive extended periods of drought. These two are endemic to the Sonoran Desert and found nowhere else in the world. The historic Bell Trail was built in the rugged canyon of Wet Beaver Creek in 1932. Wet Beaver Creek is in Yavapai County near Camp Verde, Arizona, USA. Rancher Charles Bell needed the trail to move his cattle up and down the Mogollon Rim. Today, the Bell Trail is used mainly for recreational purposes. White Mesa and Casner Butte are two of the mountains visible from the Bell Trail.
