Oxalis pes-caprae, also known as Bermuda buttercup, African wood-sorrel, Bermuda sorrel, Buttercup oxalis, Cape sorrel, English weed, Sourgrass and Soursop, is a species of flowering plant in the wood sorrel family Oxalidaceae. When the sun is shining, the flowers are open and, without the sunlight, the flowers are closed. (Please, see the last photo #9144.)  \nThe plant has become a pest plant in many parts of the world that is difficlt to eradicate, because of how it propagates through underground bulbs.

Low creeping, slightly hairy Perennial, with slender rhizomes. Leaves scattered, leaflets heart-shaped, pale green. Flowers white or pale lilac with lilac or purple veins, solitary, bell-shaped, half nodding, petals 8-15mm;  followed later by petalless cleistogamous flowers. Capsule 3-4 mm, oval and angled, hairless.
Springtime. Oxalidaceae. Yellow Wood sorrel - Oxalis pes-caprae in full bloom. Also known as yellow shamrock or sour sob. Selective shallow focus for artistic effect.
A single flower and several relaxed leaves of Yellow Vinagrillo (Oxalis megalorrhiza) nestling between rocks on the foothills of the central Andes of Chile. The leaves are motile (show tropisms) and (as shown here) can be folded when conditions dictate.
