(The males are larger).\nNot a rare vagrant but a common European breeder.\nBreeds on taiga bogs, in marshes and pools on mountainsides and tundra, and in wet grass meadows  at lakesides or seashores.\nSummer visitor, winters mainly in Africa; on passage and in winter frequents marshes, shallow pools, estuaries, ploughed and stubble fields.\nUsually seen as a few or in smaller groups, but in spring at favoured sites can occur in very large flocks.\nMale birds display in communal lek on traditional arenas, which female birds visit for mating.\n\nBreeding success in the Netherlands have been decreasing since some decades due the intensivation  of the Agriculture (Monocultures) and dehydration of the Wetlands/Pastures.\n\nThis Picture is made in Friesland (the Netherlands), with groups of most Male Birds resting during migration in Spring Season.
