The maquis, or macchia, is a type of dense, evergreen shrubland found primarily in the Mediterranean region. This vegetation is characterized by hardy shrubs and small trees such as holm oak, rosemary, and juniper, which thrive in the hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters typical of Mediterranean climates. The maquis habitat is well adapted to fire, with many plants having thick bark and deep root systems to survive and regenerate after wildfires. It provides a unique and rich ecosystem for a variety of wildlife.

As a very old settlement, it is famous for its churches from the Roman period. The most famous of these churches are; St. Barbara (Tahtalı), Karabaş, Kubbeli and Yılanlı churches. The settlement in this sheltered valley, where Christians chose to settle in the 4th century to keep their faith alive, is also intertwined with historical ruins. The people of Soğanlı, who welcome their guests with a smiling face, have another feature: they are the creators of the handmade Soğanlı dolls, each more beautiful than the other, with their colorful clothes and beads.
