The Domestic Canary, (Serinus canaria) is a domesticated form of the wild Canary, a small songbird in the finch family originating from the Macaronesian Islands (Azores, Madeira and Canary Islands.) L 11-12,5cm.\nBreeds in coniferous and mixed forests, mainly in spruce; prefers alder and birch nearby for food. Nests high up in spruce.\nThere are winter influxes from N and E Europe, sometimes on huge scale. Often large flocks in winter, when also visits Gardens. \nMobile, roams far and wide, even when breeding. Not that shy. \n\nThis is a common Species in Winter in the Netherlands, were they are mostly feeding on Alder Catkins.\n\nThis Picture was made by a Birding Hut in Spring 2024.
