Corydalis cheilanthifolia - Fernblaettriger Lerchensporn
The grasses and sunflowers of the plains of Eastern Colorado hide the horrible history of the Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site. It was in these cottonwood trees that over 150 Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians were killed without provocation by Colonel John Chivington and two regiments of soldiers on the morning of November 29, 1864. The tribes under Black Kettle and White Antelope, had signed a treaty committing to live in peace, but Chivington was looking for political gain and took it upon himself to instigate a massacre of unassuming men, women and children. The massacre site was kept secret for years and was not identified publically until 1999. In 2007 the Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site was established outside of Eads, Colorado.

East Honolulu coast, Oahu, Hawaii\n\nDracaena angolensis, synonym Sansevieria cylindrica,[1] also known as the cylindrical snake plant, African spear or spear sansevieria or in Brazil Saint Bárbara sword,[3] is a succulent plant native to Angola.\n\nDracaena angolensis has striped, elongate, smooth, greenish-gray subcylindrical leaves. They are up to 3 cm (1 in) diameter and grow up to 2 m (7 ft) above soil.[3] The spear sansevieria grows fan-shaped, with its stiff leaves growing from a basal rosette.\n\nThe species is interesting in having subcylindrical instead of strap-shaped leaves caused by a failure to express genes which would cause the cylindrical bud to differentiate dorsoventrally or produce a distinctive and familiar top and bottom surface to the leaf blade.[3][4] The 3 cm (1 in) greenish-white tubular flowers are tinged with pink.[4]

Saururus chinensis, commonly called Asian lizard’s tail, has attractive, green foliage with white splotches on the leaves at the top of the plant. It is native to wetlands, including water gardens, meadows, marshes, ditches, swampy forested areas, fields and roadsides in East Asia. Minute, spicily fragrant, white to yellowish-white flowers bloom in early to mid-summer (June-August). Each flower spike resembles the tail of a lizard, hence the common name.
