The construction of the  Arc de Triomphe in  Paris was ordered in 1806 by Napoleon, the French Emperor.  Napoleon wanted to honor the Grande Armee, which had conquered most of Europe and was considered invicible.  After his Austerlitz victory in 1805, Napoleon said to his soldiers :  \

The Trajan's Forum is among the best preserved archaeological areas in Rome, with the remains of the large market built by the emperor and the temples that were part of this sumptuous portion of the great Roman Imperial Forum. The triumphal arch (Italian: Arco di Settimio Severo), dedicated in AD 203 to commemorate the Parthian victories of Emperor Septimius Severus and his two sons, Caracalla and Publius Septimius Geta, is located at the Northeast end of the Roman Forum.
