Sima de San Pedro is located in Spain, within the autonomous community of Aragon, a region characterized by aridity and extreme temperatures. It is a chasm of karst origin, with a mouth of about 100 meters in diameter and a depth of 108, It is considered unique in Europe thanks to its complex and rich geological structure. Right at the bottom of the pit lies a lake that is 22 meters deep and contains 560,000 cubic meters of water.\n\nThis natural beauty is known as one of the most unique and important ecosystems in the region. Its interior is formed by an exceptional example of a microclimate that hosts over 25 species of vertebrates, including amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals, as well as important colonies of bats. Canyon Diablo (Navajo: Kin Łigaaí) is an 80-mile-long canyon in Northern Arizona.  It is part of the 767,000-acre Canyon Diablo Watershed and is made up primarily of private, state trust, federal land and part of the Navajo Nation.  In December 1853, U.S. Army Lieutenant Amiel Weeks Whipple was surveying in the area when he found the steep canyon.  He named it Canyon Diablo, Spanish for Devil’s Canyon. They are clusters of hoodoos, which are tall, thin rock spires that resemble mushrooms or toadstools.  These formations are created by millions of years of erosion from wind and water on soft sandstone. The wind and water wear away at the softer rock underneath, leaving the harder rock on top like a cap.  The Toadstools are found in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Utah.
