It was built to commemorate a great woman named Wang Zhaojun, who was one of the four most beautiful ladies in ancient China, and who sacrificed herself for the unity of China by marrying Chanyu, the Khan (King) of Xiong-Nu, which was Han Dynasty's arch-enemy. A group of Bedouins seeks refuge under the shade of one of the few trees in the ancient city of Petra. These Bedouins spend their entire day in the city, offering horse or donkey rides to tourists. During the end of May and the beginning of June, when this photo was taken, temperatures soar, reaching over 40°C from midday until the afternoon.\n\nTourists, especially those from Europe and the U.S, find it challenging to endure the scorching heat throughout the day. Consequently, many opt for horse or donkey rides provided by the Bedouins to make their stay in Petra more comfortable. It's important to note that both the animals and the humans suffer from the intense heat, and the added weight of the riders exacerbates the animals' discomfort
