Two whales bask in the sunlit warm waters of the tropical ocean.
Humpback whale breaching in Frederick Sound Alaska. With a couple pumps of their powerful flukes these large mammals can power themselves up out of the water. The whale is exhaling through it’s blowhole as it leaves the water. This is image 1 of a series of nine sequential shots of the same breach. At this point about 20 feet of the marine mammal is out of the ocean. These humpbacks are baleen whales which feed on herring and krill during the summer in Alaska. They migrate to the Hawaiian islands in winter to mate and give birth to their young.

Under the chin barnacles can be seen as well as along the pectoral fin. Pectoral fins are 15 feet in length with this marine mammal being about 45 to 50 feet long.
