Built in the southern area of the ancient Campus Martius, the Theatre of Marcellus it was completed in 13 BC and formally inaugurated in 12 BC from the Emperor Augustus, taking its name from his nephew Marcus Claudius Marcellus who died in 23 BC. The remaining columns (center) refer to the Temple of Apollo Sosianus, built starting from 413 BC and subsequently expanded during the Dynasty of the Augustus emperor.
