$Although produced by mathematics, this image seems to show a border of beetle-like creatures dressed in Japanese armour. The figues, large and small, echo each other in shape. Self similarity is the hallmark of a fractal image. There is space for text. In essence, a fractal is a kind of mathematical graph laid out as a picture. A number is put into an equation, and the answer is recorded as a coloured dot. That answer is then put back into the same equation to generate a second answer, which is also recorded. This procedure is repeated thousands of times, with each new answer being used to generate the next one. The end results can be astonishingly complicated and beautiful, and any part of the image can be enlarged in order to reveal even more complexity.$
