This photograph captures some beautiful Lesser Scaup (Male + Immature Male) paddling about on a winter morning. It is colloquially known as the little Bluebill or Broadbill because of its distinctive blue bill.
The male Lesser Scaup, the dark one, is keeping an eye on his potential mates during the winter months hoping they will fly away with him to make little Scaups

The Ring-Necked Duck (Aythya collaris) is a North American diving duck found in freshwater ponds and lakes. The duck’s name comes from the drake’s cinnamon colored neck ring. The male also has two white rings around its gray bill, a shiny black head, black back, a white line on the wings, a white breast and yellow eyes. The female has a grayish brown head and body with a dark brown back and a dark bill. The breeding habitat of the ring-necked duck is lakes and ponds in the northern United States and Canada. Ring-necked ducks pair up during spring migration and then separate after breeding. These ducks are omnivores and feed mainly by diving or dabbling for submerged plants such as pondweed, wild rice, coontail and snails. These two male ring-necked ducks were photographed while swimming in the Bubbling Ponds Fish Hatchery near Cornville, Arizona, USA.

This pair of tufted ducks (Aythya fuligula) are swimming in water that reflects a blue spring sky. Tufted ducks of both sexes have steel blue bills and yellow eyes. The colour differences are clear from the photograph. Such sexual dimorphism is common in ducks.

The Common Goldeneye (Bucephala clangula) is a medium-sized diving duck of the genus Bucephala. Common goldeneyes are territorial and aggressive. They have elaborate courtship displays. The common goldeneye is named for its golden-yellow eye. Adult males have a dark greenish glossy head with a white circular patch below the eye. Their back is dark and they have a white belly and neck. Adult females have a gray body and brown head. Their legs and feet are orange-yellow. The breeding habitat of the common goldeneye is in the rivers and lakes of the boreal forest across northern North America and northern Russia. They nest in large tree cavities made by woodpeckers and from broken off limbs. They return to the same nests year after year. The goldeneye is a migratory waterfowl and spends the winter in the protected waters of the more temperate latitudes. Their diet is met by foraging underwater for crustaceans, aquatic insects, mollusks, fish eggs and aquatic plants. This trio of female common goldeneyes was photographed while swimming at Walnut Canyon Lakes in Flagstaff, Arizona, USA.
