Masai mara, Kenya - March 29, 1995: Masais crossing the plains at Masai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya. Masais are maybe the most famous of all african tribes, living in the great open plains of southwestern Kenya and northwestern Tanzania. They are basically a pastoralist tribe owing great herds of cattle, considered their most valuable possessions. Well known for their bravery and warrior spirit, they didn't hesitate to confront lions when the cat attack their cattle. Armed only a buffalo hide shield and a long spear they are known to kill lions with only this waeponry. They live in small villages called manyattas, where mud huts are built and then surrounded by a big rounded thorn fence, as a protection agains lions and other predators.
