A small slender greenish leatherjacket with rows of yellow spots and dashes along the sides and a small black blotch on the tail. Males have bristles on the tail base. Harlequin Filefish shelter amongst branches of Acropora corals at night. They not only resemble coral branches, but they also smell like them, enabling the filefish to remain undetected by nocturnal predators

Shortsnout Filefish Paramonacanthus curtorhynchos occurs in the tropical Indo-West Pacific from Bay of Bengal to the Indo-Malayan region and Palau, New Caledonia and Fiji, south to Australia in protected areas, on open, silty sand bottoms, max. length 11.3cm. \nThis juvenile specimen might be 4cm long. Adult Shortsnout Filefishes occur deeper, in a depth range from 39-90m. Young fish grow near the shore and only later venture into the depths.\nTriton Bay, West Papua Province, Indonesia, \n3°54'41.052 S 134°7'18.204 E at 15m depth

The Yellow Boxfish Ostracion cubicus occurs in the tropical and subtropical Indopacific in lagoon and semi-sheltered seaward reefs in a depth range from 1-280m, but usually not deeper than 50m. From the juvenile to the adult fish there is a big change in shape and color, cube-shaped juveniles are bright yellow with black dots and would fit easily into a walnut. Max. length is 45cm.
