Pair of panicles of white flowers of wild privet in May
Semi-deciduous shrub, 1-3m tall, densely branched with smooth greyish bark. Leaves lanceolate, thin untoothed, short stalked. Flowers white, 4-6mm, in dense pyramidal panicles, fragrant. Fruit a berry, 6-8mm, shiny black when ripe.
Japanese privet is a tree that is often used as a windbreak, street tree, and hedge, and produces many small, cone-shaped white flowers.
This is Russian vine (Fallopia baldschuanica), originating from eastern Asia but here growing in Merton, London. This fast-growing vine is related to Japanese knotweed and has similar invasive qualities, needing no invitation to scramble over trees, bushes and walls. Other names for the Russian vine are mile-a-minute vine; China fleece vine; fleece flower and silver lace vine. Earlier scientific names for the same plant are (Fallopia aubertii), (Polygonum baldschuanicum) and (Polygonum aubertii).

Deutzia scabra, commonly called fuzzy deutzia, is an upright, somewhat coarse, deciduous shrub that typically grows 6-10’ tall with spreading to arching branches that form a rounded crown. It is native to Japan. Mature branching is clad with exfoliating brown bark. Tiny, fragrant, star-shaped, white flowers (to 3/4” long) appear in late spring in upright racemose panicles (to 3-6” long) which cover the shrub for about two weeks. [Missouri Botanical Garden]

Pyracantha is a genus of thorny evergreen large shrubs in the family Rosaceae, with common names Firethorn or Pyracantha. They are native to an area extending from Southeast Europe east to Southeast Asia, resemble and are related to Cotoneaster, but have serrated leaf margins and numerous thorns (Cotoneaster is thornless).\nPyracanthas are valuable ornamental plants, grown in gardens for their decorative flowers and fruit, often very densely borne. Their dense thorny structure makes them particularly valued in situations where an impenetrable barrier is required. Pyracantha berries are not poisonous as commonly thought; although they are very bitter, they are edible when cooked and are sometimes made into jelly.[2] In the UK and Ireland Pyracantha and the related genus Cotoneaster are valuable sources of nectar when often the bees have little other forage during the June Gap.\nThe plants reach up to six metres tall. The seven species have white flowers and either red, orange, or yellow berries. The flowers are produced during late spring and early summer; the pomes develop from late summer, and mature in late autumn (source Wikipedia).
