Alhos Vedros, Moita Municipality, Setubal, Portugal: abandoned 16th century tide mill that once harvested the energy from the tides in the Tagus estuary ('Mar da Palha'). The tidal mill used a floodgate system that allows the use of the two daily tides, receiving the water at high tide, and gradually starting to empty at low tide. Alhos Vedros' privately owned northern mill is located near the also abandoned Alhos Vedros airfield (38.6633424N -9.0308475W). Moita municipality used to have 8 of these mills, only 2 still survive.
